The things people ask us.
Like the fruit on the label, because that is nearly all of it. There is a faint savory note underneath — that is the mushroom, and we have not tried to hide it. People who expect the bitterness of a mushroom powder are usually surprised.
One or two a day. Most people take Flow State and Life Force in the morning, Balancing Act in the evening, and the others whenever they remember. There is no schedule to keep to.
Organic fruit, bought from California family farms at peak ripeness, and a little allulose to carry it. No cane sugar. No fruit concentrate shipped in from somewhere far away, and no flavoring of any kind, natural or artificial. This is also why a pouch tastes slightly different from season to season.
None. No erythritol, no maltitol, no xylitol, no sorbitol. They are the standard trick for a low-sugar label, and they are the reason a lot of people cannot eat more than one of anything in this category.
Two jobs at once. It is the structure of the gummy, the thing that makes it a gummy rather than a purée, and it is food for the bacteria in your gut. Most gummies use syrup and gelatin to get that texture. We would rather the structural ingredient also did something useful.
Eight of the nine come from our own farm in Los Angeles, from spore to harvest, grown with low-impact methods: lion's mane, cordyceps, reishi, turkey tail, tremella, shiitake, oyster and maitake. Chaga is the exception. It cannot be farmed, so ours is wild-harvested sustainably in the Green Mountains of central Vermont, mature conks only, with part of each left on the birch to regrow. More about the farm.
No, and nobody can, not properly. Chaga grows wild, slowly, on living birch in cold northern forests, and the compounds it is valued for come partly from the tree itself. Ours is wild-harvested sustainably in the Green Mountains of central Vermont: mature conks only, from healthy living birch, with part of each conk left on the tree to regrow. The other eight mushrooms are grown from spore at our farm in Los Angeles.
Fruiting body, only, always. A great deal of what is sold as mushroom supplement is mycelium grown on grain, and a large share of the finished weight is the grain. We do not use it.
No. These are culinary and functional mushrooms. Nothing in a Humdrum gummy is psychoactive, and nothing in it is controlled.
Somewhere cool and out of the sun. If you subscribe, the first delivery comes with our mushroom-shaped jar, which was designed to sit on a counter rather than hide in a cupboard, and to be refilled from each month's pouch.
Ask your doctor. Reishi and cordyceps in particular can interact with blood thinners and blood pressure medication. If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking anything prescribed, have the conversation first.
